What is Squint?
Squint occurs when the muscles controlling eye movement do not work together properly, causing one or both eyes to turn inward, outward, upward, or downward. It can be present from birth or develop later due to various factors.
Common causes include:
- Refractive errors (uncorrected power)
- Muscle imbalance
- Nerve-related issues
- Family history
- Certain neurological conditions
Beyond the visible misalignment, untreated squint — particularly in children — can lead to amblyopia (lazy eye), where the brain begins to ignore input from the weaker eye, potentially causing permanent vision loss in that eye if not treated early.
In adults, squint correction can also significantly improve depth perception, reduce double vision, and restore confidence.
