Ptosis, commonly known as drooping of the upper eyelid, occurs when the eyelid falls lower than its normal position. It may affect one or both eyes and can interfere with vision, daily activities, and facial appearance. Dr. Sandeep Darunde offers advanced evaluation and customised ptosis correction surgery to restore eyelid function, improve vision, and achieve a natural-looking appearance.

What is Ptosis?

Ptosis is a condition in which the upper eyelid droops due to weakness or dysfunction of the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelid. It may be present from birth (congenital) or develop later in life due to ageing, injury, nerve disorders, or previous eye surgery.

Common symptoms include:

  • Drooping of one or both upper eyelids
  • Obstruction of the upper field of vision
  • Eye strain or forehead discomfort from constantly raising the eyebrows
  • Difficulty keeping the eyes fully open
  • Tired-looking or uneven appearance of the eyes

Dr. Darunde performs ptosis correction using advanced surgical techniques tailored to the severity and underlying cause of the condition, including:

Levator Muscle Repair: The eyelid lifting muscle is tightened or repositioned to restore the eyelid to its normal height and improve function.

Frontalis Sling Surgery: Recommended for patients with very weak eyelid muscles, this technique uses a sling to connect the eyelid to the forehead muscle, allowing the forehead muscles to assist in lifting the eyelid.

The most suitable procedure is selected after a detailed examination of eyelid function, muscle strength, and overall eye health, ensuring personalised treatment for the best functional and cosmetic outcome.
